Oh and while I’m on getting stuff free, I am offering $100 cash to the first person to give me information leading to the retrieval of my stolen car audio system. They took a SONY Amplifyer and Crossover.

This is great!!

We have a candy machine here at work which was loaded by a bunch of monkeys. The candy bars constantly get stuck under the coils that are supposed to push them out, so whenever someone tries (and fails) to get their candy bar, we discovered that if you tip the machine on a 45 degree angle and buy a candy bar in the same slot that they both come falling down.

Today I was lucky thoufh. As we tipped the machine the candy bar fell on it’s own 🙂 Thanks to the poor sucker for the free candy bar (actually, there was 5 cents in the coin shoot so when I got my money back I came out $0.05 ahead 🙂

Well, My new batch of mead is doing pretty well. Much better than my first batch. It started fermenting about 6 to 12 hours after we made the batch and is still bubbling rapidly. I’m much happier with the results I’m getting now. It took the first batch 2 or 3 weeks before it started bubbling 10 times slower than this batch is now.

I should have a Jaypoc dotCom Homebrew… would you attend?

DAMN FUCKING OPTIMUMONLINE!

Posted on July 25, 2001 by jaypoc

Some people are just fucking retarded. Don’t you think!

One of my email accounts has been receiving a duplicate e-mail containing a virus or worm (Yes, another one of those!). This has been going on for the past 3 days. I identified the source as a customer of Optimum Online (A local Cable Modem provider)….

I sent and email to them reporting the user and offering my assistance to help their user clean the worm off their system. I got a reply stating that Optimum Online does not filter or block my mail and therefore can not stop me from receiving SPAM.

I wrote back again RE-explaining myself and got a pre-formatted response telling me what a “Hacker” is (which is another story because “Script kiddie” would be a more appropriate name).

It seems that Optimum Online is trying to avoid dealing with a situation that could very easily have been resolved by now. I still continue to recieve emails from this person and probably will for the remainder of his/her computers life. Sure, I could block the email from him/her, but when he sends it to everyone in the fucking world, I’ll just get it again from someone else.

It could easily be stopped at this point but Optimum Online isn’t even willing to send an e-mail to the customer explaining that he/she may have a virus and to D/L an AntiVirus program or to contact me (I offered my number at work and professional assistance) for assistance.

The net just is not what it used to be. When I started out with computers the community’s goal was to ensure the quality of the Networks that made up the internet. Today, nobody cares. The Quality of the internet is in the Toilet today. The networks that used to be run by enthusiasts are run by college students with no desire to excel and minimal knowledge regarding computers.

Hell, at my work, I’ve out-lived several MCPs (Microsoft Certified Professionals)…. These people who are “”Certified”” by Micro$oft who have memorized a set of questions from a book and taken one single test. They don’t have the “hacker” instinct that is needed to be sucessful as a computer technician. They lack the desire to learn. To experiment and to make the net work for them. Perhaps if we had competent people running the Internet Services then SPAM and Virii would not be as much of a problem as they are…

We need to rid the Internet Community of the ignorance that is taking over the industry.
