Congrads! I really need to work with a recruiter myself. But I need to hold of on getting a job until my dad has his final surgery. In the meantime I need to start looking more, only have 3 more months of unemployment 🙁

Now you can really enjoy your trip knowing you have that security. I didn’t doubt you would stay unemployed for long checking your resume out.

Believe it or not, since Sept, 2001 I havent been able to find ANYTHING. been taking random jobs here and there. Some computer related, some not….

Turned down a few jobs because they didn’t pay enough and had no future. Other than those jobs, I couldn’t find much. I guess 6+ years of computer experience is nothing compared to certified and schooled individuals… The funny thing is, While I lasted 5 years with North American Internet Service, many MCPs and MCSE’s came and only lasted a few months or if they were lucky, a few years. It just goes to show you, to get a job you need book smarts. To keep it you need real world experience!

I started out at TIAC (The Internet Access Company), then PSInet bought us out & then we all got laid off. Then I moved on to GTE Internetworking (formally BBN), well then GTE & Bell Atlantic merged & became Verizon so we had to branch off into our own company, Genuity. We got greedy & went IPO (I was a millionaire on paper for all of 43 minutes!). Well then we got into trouble & Level 3 came & bought us for pennies on the dollar & closed up all Massachusetts Operations. I could have had a job in either Atlanta or Colorado but I can’t leave with my parents (they are very sick).

Since then like you I’ve gotten stupid offers that paid about the same as working in McDonald’s did. I was holding out as I knew I could do better. I knew I was paid well (during the internet burst) but I didn’t realize HOW WELL. Comcast has called me back 3 times but it was second shift (which I hate), split days off (Tues & Thurs – what good is that?) & they were offering me $10.75/hour. It sucks. I hear it is getting better & I am looking. *fingers crossed* I’m soooo happy to hear that you have found something though.

MJP has all of his certs, but he also owns his own business. He always says that 95% of the people he has met with certs do not know how to do crap! He truly learned everything by doing it for so long, not taking some class at New Horizons and then getting a cert after the test.

You, too, are proof of his theory.

He also theorizes that everyone should buy me things. Please marinate on that concept and get back to me. I’m not too picky. Most gifts are appreciated (please do not bring up my spoiled-brat rants of a few months ago – I suffer from only-child syndrome)

I agree with his theory in part. We see eye to eye on the credibility of training certificates, however I don’t see how buying you things will help me (or anyone other than you) in the long run. Perhaps if there was some incentive for me (Gifts, Money, Sex, etc… lol) then I would be more inclined to buy you stuff but seeing as I know you onlu from LJ I think that might be a bit of a stretch. lol
