Dave’s Pics from JaypoCON V
Every year, around my birthday, I hold a huge celebration which I have named, JaypoCON. It started in 2000 when I invited a large group of my friends over the house and out to dinner. JaypoCON events have had over 50 attendees at times and are always great fun!
This year, we headed to Medieval Times in Lindhurst, New Jersey.
The evening started out with everyone meeting at my house for cocktail weenies, drinks, and just casual hanging out and chatting. I hadn’t made prior reservations for Medieval Times because we still didn’t know for sure how many people were coming. At the “reception” I collected money from people and made the reservation for Eleven people. A small group, but understandable seeing that it was $50 per person to go.
We hopped into 2 cars and headed to Jersey…. Traffic wasn’t all that bad. It took us just under 2 hours to get there.
Medieval Times sells Bunratty Mead so Dave and me got a bottle…. I drank about half the bottle, then during the tournament got another bottle for myself… Over all, I probably drank one and a half bottles of Mead all by myself. Woohoo! 🙂
Of course, what are friends for, except to try to Humiliate you… They brought me back to wait for the king to arrive, and sure enough, the first name they called was my own. I was to be Knighted. You may call me, Sir AJypoc from now on!
Dinner was cool.. Soup in a crock with a handle… no silverware. Chicken, Ribs, Potato all served on a pewter plate and of course, it’s ALL finger-food… There was no silverware in medieval times, hence there IS no silverware AT Medieval Times. Finished off with the Pastry of the Castle, an apple-pie-type-thingy.
Our knight was the Green Knight! He lost, though he outlasted all the other knights except the winner. We think he was gay. Maybe not… he didn’t throw the rose to Carmine or myself. Both who were waving to him to. lol
Medieval Times was a lot of fun. I got a “Birthday King” crown, Photo of myself being Knighted, a wooden sword, a Medieval Times shot glass for my collection and we even found a green banner on one of the tables that someone left behind.
We headed back to Long Island and made a pit stop at my house… We met up with Jen and Charlie again (who chose not to go to Medieval Times) and went to a small bar in Old Bethpage. So small it doesn’t even have a name… Well, okay.. It does have a name, but I don’t remember it.
We hung out there all night. Drinking, Dancing playing Darts and playing pool…. More people showed up for the bar and everyone had a great night!
JaypoCON V was a success… as usual…
next year, who knows.. Maybe Atlantic City.

Exciting! Tomorrow is the fifth annual JaypoCON… yes, JaypoCON 2004!
We’ll be meeting at my place at 2:00 PM and hopefully if all works out we’ll head over to Medieval Times in New Jersey to catch a show at 7-ish….
If things dont work out, we’ll be drinkin’ and eatin’ near home. lol.
After calling just one name, they let everyone go…. Nope, It wasn’t mine… I have to go back to work today. Just about to leave the house. running late, but I wanterd to post the update…
My heart was beating faster as they called me up to the jurors box. This was it. The moment when they decided whether or not to pick me as part of the Jury for a murder case.
They were especially interested in the fact that I had been to the crime scene in the immediate present. Would the fact that I had familiarity with the area taint my judgement or would it prove to be a valuable assett to determining the truth?
Watching the court stenographer (? The woman who types everything) I wondered about the “typewriter” that she used. It didn’t seem as if she was actually typing very fast at all. Could it be a shorthand typewriter?
Could I give a fair trial…. The question kept popping up. While I know that I most certainly could I tried to hesitate to answer. I would look 100% at the facts and make my decision based on that…. It’s just the type of person I am. I don’t judge people until I see the facts… Ask some of my friends. Many of them don’t get along with eachother, yet I maintain my friendships with both sides. I don’t make my own judgements based on heresay.
If chosen for the trial, I would certainly do my best to represent the truth… for either the plaintiff of the defendant…..
So, it came down to a moment of conspiracy between the judge, the lawyers and the courtroom staff… Today seemed longer than yesterday. yesterday they kept 4 of the 12 jurors selected to go up on the stand….. Today I sat there. Awaiting the court’s decision…..
I thought I heard the judge say “6”… Could half of us have been selected?
“If we do not call your name, you may leave…. The following people have been chosen…………”
