Week in Review

Posted on June 13, 2005 by jaypoc

Last week during a round of Morton’s List the Inner Circle was challenged to embark on a business venture, so with nothing else to sell, we posted ‘s autograph on eBay. It sold for $1.25 and I shipped it out today.

This weekend was pretty sweet as I went Camping in my friend’s wife’s brother’s backyard 🙂 They have a HUGE yard out east. They has a big three-day BBQ and camp-out. In fact, people are still out there now. I had to come home because I work today. There were about 8 tents set up (including mine) and we all camped out. It would have been awesome had I not been coming down with a cold and it been sooooo damn hot! My setup kicked ass though! I have a nice sized 4-person tent. It’s got plenty of room for my Queen-sized air mattress, folding chair, cooler, and camping pack which I still had from back in my Boy Scout days.

About three months ago, I was parked in my friend’s driveway when her neighbor backed out of their driveway and hit my car. I just dropped it off at the body shop to be fixed. Enterprise almost gave me a Pontiac Vibe, but as I was confirming the value from the insurance company, someone returned a Hyundai Elantra so I’m stuck driving that for the week. It’s going to be so nice to get my car back at the end of the week at which time I really need to bring it in for a tune-up, oil change, etc…

Home Depot Part 2

Posted on June 3, 2005 by jaypoc

Okay! I got out of work at 11:10 tonight! Hopped into the car and FLEEEEEEEEEW to Home Depot!

Took me just under 20 minutes, and I knew that I had only a half hour left to find what I needed. I was better prepared this time!

Knowing what was in the Plumbing and Cabinet areas, I ventured deeper into the lumbar area. I found some nice wooden poles (round, light-weight wood) last night, but they were $2 a foot and I needed 3 7 foot poles… I was NOT about to spend $42 on 3 wooden poles 😉 Around the corner I found some square wooden poles… Perfect I though! They were $4 each. I grabbed 4 of em. (I only need 3, but I can experiment with drilling one and not worry about it!

I picked up some metal clips to hold the backgrounds to the wooden poles and grabbed ANOTHER 12″ light globe so I can make another Asshole helmet. I’m gonna get it right this time! I’m going to borrow a dremmel to cut out the helmet rather than sit there with a hacksaw and fuck everything up. THEN I’ll prime and paint it properly!

Got home and the wooden poles worked great. Clipped the backgrounds to em and rolled em up. Took the extra pole and drilled a 1/2″ hole half-way through it in the very center. Holds onto the light stand perfectly. I have a heavy duty light stand on it’s way and that one should be able to hold on to the background pretty well.

Home Dissapointment Depot

Posted on June 2, 2005 by jaypoc

Thoughroughly dissapointed tonight. I just got some of the photography equipment I ordered from eBay (Stand/Mount for Umbrella Light and 2 more Backgrounds) I went to Home Depot after work because they’re 24 hours and I need to get something to hold the backgrounds. After wandering Home Dept for about a half hour, I started to find some of the materials I would need. It was at that moment I heard the dreaded call “Attention Home Depot Shoppers… The time is now 12 Midnight! The store is closed”…

WHAT???????????????????????

So anyways, I put everything down (cuz there was no point in getting only half of what I needed)…… Since when did the 24 Hour Home Depot start closing at Midnight 🙁

I’ll have to swing by a depot this weekend during the day to find what I need.

Though this weekend was all work, I had a blast! Saturday morning, I worked the BFCU Air Show at Jones Beach on behalf of KJOY, B-103 and Island 94.3… I was lucky enough to get plenty of time to run around with my camera and get some nice shots of the show. Check out these shots. You can see the rest of my shots on KJOY.COM on their photos page, but these are some of my favs.

Better late than never

Posted on May 9, 2005 by jaypoc

This weekend was a blast… Despite work scheduling me at the last minute, I managed to trek out to New York City to hang with Sarah, Sarah and Ben. After meeting up with the Sarahs and hitting Chez McDonalds for a less than gourmet dinner, we headed to a small hole-in-the-wall cheap (did I mention CHEAP) bar called Blue & Gold (on East 7th St). Mixed Drinks were $3 each! We spent the night playing a few drinking games, including 2 rounds of Circle of Death… I don’t think I’ve played any drinking games in about 6 years so this was a great escape from my everyday. I got pretty messed up as well… I think we all had fun, though some events occurred which I hope won’t have any lasting effects.

To make a fun night even more interesting (because my life always has some interesting or amusing twists in it), while rushing through the subway systems, I swiped my Metrocard which had only 1 more trip on it through the off-centered turnstyle, stepped in, and moved foward until it just stopped! It turned enough for someone who squeezed into the chamber to go through, but the chamber that was most facing the enterance was actually the NEXT chamber (if that makes any sense at all)….

So to get through to where Ben and one of the Sarahs were, I squeezed into the turnstyle with the other Sarah and made my way in.

All was good until 2 med weilding badges around their necks approached us and asked us what happened. I explained why I entered the turnstyle with my friend, and presented the metrocard on which I paid my passage, but was denied. They took the cards from us and asked us to follow them to the ticket booth to verify our story. (If they were watching that closely, they should have seen me walk into the bars of the other turnstyle after swiping my card)

They let us go, making it a point to inform me that what I did was illegal and they could have issued a summons to me for it. But why should they? I paid my fare. Anyways, they let us all go and we headed home, all going our seperate ways…

It was a blast!
