Coney Island

Posted on September 17, 2005 by jaypoc

Very dissapointed that the Cyclone wasn’t open today, but I did get to hang out at the New York Aquarium at Coney Island today. I headed out there this morning with Matt and his Fiance Jane, both up from Florida for the week.

Got lots of pics of the Seals, Walruses, Jellyfish, Penguins, Turtles, etc… Was fun, though there wasn’t any hands-on activities. While the animals were cute, it would have been nice to have the petting tank open and maybe made it to the shows 🙂 Our bad…

Otherwise it was interesting and fun….

Met up with Jen and Charlie for dinner at Croxley’s Ales. My fav bar on the Island with 79 beers on tap, I make it a point to try a new one every time I’m there. I had a “Rogue Dead Guy” tonight. Not bad… Funny coming from me, one who never drank beer before.

We headed to Donuts and went on an impromptu Geocache to give Matt another cache under his belt, and give Jane an into to the sport… We headed to Charlie’s cache located near Donuts, but C had the wrong coordinates in his GPS. The funny part is they brought us to a point that looked JUST LIKE the actual cache location. For a few minutes there we thought that the location was actually demolished. A quick call to got us the correct coordinates and Matt and Jane were able to find the cache rather quickly.

Skype or NOT

Posted on September 14, 2005 by jaypoc

I started playing with Skype… A free VOIP service that works like an Instant Messaging program. Check this out:

Have you ever come across the profile of a gorgeous blonde. She seems cool. Her profile shows that she’s from NY, and enrolled as a film student at NYU. Her Profile sounds fun, and she’s incredilbly hot so you muster up the will to IM her and try to woo her with your charm… You talk for a while and things heat up a bit. You try to swap emails, but for some reason, she can’t get your emails and you can’t get hers…. Eventually, you realize that she’s a freak, though claiming she’s a woman, she begins to come on to you offering you her manhood.

Why is all this?

Skype Pranker v0.31 [Website]

You have unknowingly been talking with some other guy with the same viewpoint as you. Words in your conversation have been changed. Any time you said “Male”, “Guy”, or “Man” the guy you were chatting saw “Female”, “Girl” and “Woman”. Your email address has been altered so instead of seeing your email, the man at the other end saw a pre-determined email address that doesn’t actually exist. It’s the same email address that you saw when he (she?) gave you his (hers!).

Skype Pranker connects two chatters together, both assuming they’re chatting with the person who’s profile you set up. To make it better, Skype Pranker can be set up to replace words… When someone says “I’m a guy” the other person sees “I’m a girl”. It can even replace all email addresses with one that I want instead. And the best part is the program runs automatically! You just run it and sit back and watch…

I’ll post a few logs once I get a bunch… (The first 2 guys are still going at it after 15 mins trying to contact eachother on MSN or through email. lol)

Yet another Instant Messenger

Posted on August 26, 2005 by jaypoc

Okay.. Have we had enough? NO!!!!!

Google, in their attempt to take over the world, has set up a new Instant Messaging service! How cool! Called Coogle Talk. It’s linked to your gmail account and seems pretty cool so far, though I have absolutely no contacts on it yet. I even like how google publishes their server information so that you can set up third-party IM clients such as GAIM, iChat, Trillian and others for their service. I encourage anybody with a gmail account to check it out!

Tivo Withdrawl!

Posted on August 19, 2005 by jaypoc

Those of you who have a TiVo will completely understand while the rest of you will have no clue and probably believe that I’m just nuts.

It’s alreadt started! I sent out my TiVo for repair today, and watching TV is not as enjoyable as it was only 24 hours ago. After the freak storm and power outage that killed half the electronics in my house (includeing my Cable Modem, Network Switch, Router’s Network Card, and 2 TV Boxes) my Tivo stopped making it’s calls in for updated programming. I left it running as long as I could, but at 5AM this morning, TiVo ran out of programming. Every channel gave a blank name and description of it’s shows. It was horrible.

I’m considering going to Cablevision and picking up a DVR for a month while they repair the TiVo. I should have it back in 2 to 3 weeks.

Aaaarrrgggghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
