What is a Carputer?

Basically, A Carputer (Car-PC or Karputer) is a computer for the car. It sounds like a tech geek's wet dream, but it's actually more than that. Cars with mobile video or navigation systems are becoming more common lately, but anybody who has installed one of these systems knows that they're extremely expensive and very limited in their capabilities. Thats where a Carputer comes in. It costs about the same (sometimes less) than a navigation/multimedia system, but there's no limits to what it can do. Some of the options include:

  • GPS/Navigation
  • Music (Radio, MP3, CD, etc..)
  • Movies (Mpeg Video, DVDs, VCDs, etc..)
  • Video Games
  • Internet Access
  • Business Applications

There's really no limits to what you can do with a carputer.

    Conception of the Jaypoc Carputer

I came up with the concept while driving around with the Laptop on my passenger seat. Running Delorme Street Atlas 2005, I was able to use the computer to figure out how to get to the Hosting center for this website in New Jersey, and to my friend's new house in Pennsylvania, however it was a royal pain in the ass when I had to make any changes on the PC. Especially volume (which is a 2-handed operation on this laptop. The other option, look away from the road to try to find the Volume icon. Both bad plans when you're on the road).

I figured it would be easier to be able to access the PC from my seat and not have to look down to adjust anything. Integration into my car was necessary.
